'The sites where aircraft crashed during World War II on and around the Cheviot are the property of the Ministry of Defence. They are not war graves but nevertheless poignant places where airmen lost their lives. Out of respect please do not remove any remaining fragments of aircraft - just look and remember the men who flew them.'
